Breed choices include recognised breeds; older adverts can match a breed in their title. Enter a postcode and choose a distance: results update automatically after a short pause. You can still click Search. We use Postcodes.io to look up postcodes (your search postcode goes to that service, but Fieldgate does not save it). Distances are approximate straight-line estimates using the centre of each seller's postcode district, not road mileage. Older adverts without district information are excluded from radius results. Search covers the latest 100 approved adverts.

About Fieldgate

From one farm gate to another.

Fieldgate South West is being developed as a straightforward local marketplace for farmers, smallholders and countryside people in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.

Find or advertise sheep, cattle, goats, pigs, poultry, dogs and puppies, farm equipment and other livestock. Browse by breed, price and approximate distance, and contact a seller privately through Fieldgate.

Our aim is to keep ordinary buying and selling free. Fieldgate does not take payments, arrange transport or act as the seller. Buyers and sellers agree any transaction directly.

Development preview: Fieldgate is not publicly launched. Adverts are fictional tests, and the rules below are a draft to review before inviting real users.

Marketplace guidance

Rules & safer trading

We want Fieldgate to be useful, friendly and trustworthy. Please read these draft rules before posting or responding to an advert.

For sellers

  • Advertise only animals or goods you own or are authorised to sell, and only if their sale is lawful.
  • Describe breed or type, sex, age, condition, price and general location accurately. Use genuine photographs you have permission to share.
  • Do not advertise animals subject to sale or movement restrictions. Follow relevant welfare, identification, record-keeping and movement rules.
  • Mark an advert as sold or withdraw it when it is no longer available.

For buyers

  • Ask questions, check who you are dealing with, and arrange an appropriate viewing before committing.
  • Check animal health, identification, documentation and any movement requirements that apply to your holding.
  • Be cautious about advance payments, unusual requests and offers that seem too good to be true.
  • Keep initial conversations in Fieldgate messages and avoid sending financial details.

Puppies & dogs

No sale or permanent transfer of puppies under eight weeks. Puppies must be sold by their breeder, not by an unlicensed third-party dealer. Where a breeding or selling licence is required, sellers must comply with licensing conditions, including advertising requirements.

Buyers should see puppies with their mother and ask for identification, health and veterinary information.

Read GOV.UK pet-selling guidance and dog-breeding guidance.

Farm livestock

Sellers and buyers are responsible for the correct holding registration, identification, health and movement documents for the species involved. Fieldgate adverts do not replace official records.

Official guidance: sheep & goats, cattle, and pigs.

Approvals and concerns: Fieldgate reviews adverts before they appear, but approval is not a guarantee that an animal, seller or description has been independently verified. If you spot a suspicious or unsuitable advert, contact fieldgatesouthwest@gmail.com with the advert title and your concern.

These are practical draft marketplace rules, not a complete privacy notice or legal terms. We'll finish and review the formal policies, moderation process and reporting controls before public launch.
